Education and Appointments

Prof. Hong He is the Deputy Director of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Prof. He received his doctorate (PhD) at the University of Tokyo in 1994. He studied and worked in Japan, the United States and Canada for 11 years, and thereafter joined RCEES in 2001. His research has mainly focused on fundamental and applied research in environmental catalysis and heterogeneous atmospheric chemistry, with a series of achievements in the areas of diesel emission control technologies, catalytic indoor air purification and haze formation mechanisms. He is the author of more than 490 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with over 19,900 citations. Prof. He is the first inventor on 56 authorized patents, some of which have already been implemented in commercial applications. He has also written a scholarly book in Chinese, “The Principles and Application of Environmental Catalysis,” and two chapters in related English language books. Prof. He was awarded the National Technology Invention Award (China, Second Class) in 2011, the National Science and Technology Progress Award (China, Second Class) in 2014, the National Natural Science Award (China, Second Class) in 2019 and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation in 2017.   

As a co-chairman, Prof. He presided over the 6th International Conference on Environmental Catalysis and launched a series of China-Japan Workshops on Environmental Catalysis and Eco-materials as a founder and organizer, which have continued for 17 years. He has delivered more than 110 plenary and keynote presentations at international and domestic conferences. He has served as co-Editor-in-Chief for Catalysis Surveys from Asia, and as an Editorial Board Member for Catalysis Today. Currently, he is Associate Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Science (Chinese) and Journal of Environmental Engineering (Chinese), Editorial Board Member of Journal of Environmental Sciences, Journal of Energy Chemistry, and Journal of Spectroscopy Dynamics; and Scientific Advisory Board Member for Catalysis Letters, Topics in Catalysis, Catalysis Surveys from Asia and others.

 

Under Prof. He’s supervision, forty-one graduate students have obtained their PhD degrees, of which four have received the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award of CAS, and eight have been awarded the Special Prize of the President Scholarship and the Excellence Prize of the President Scholarship of CAS. Meanwhile, Prof. He received the Excellent Graduate Advisor Prize of CAS in 2005, 2006, 2011, 2013, and 2014, and was also named Outstanding Teacher in 2006.

Dr. Yu received his B.S. from Xiangtan Normal University in China (1994), M.A. in water resources and environmental sciences from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) (2001), and Ph.D. degree in environmental science from Research Center for Eco-Environmental Science (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences (2004). He has been an assistant professor of environmental science at RCEES since 2004, and was promoted to an associate professor in 2006, and waspromoted to professor in 2014.He then spent two years as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Haruta’s lab at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan. His research interests include NOx removal from diesel engine exhaust and low temperature CO oxidation.
